How to open a DWG file in Design Review with newer versions of DWG TrueView Products and versions covered DWG TrueView 2013, DWG TrueView 2014, DWG TrueView 2015, DWG TrueView 2016, Design Review 2013, Design Review 2014, Design Review 2015, Design Review 2016, & Design Review 2017. If you open PDF files using the embedded vector data (ie. Lines), you can then use ADR (Autodesk Design Review) to snap to PDF lines in order to measure them. This may be useful to you if you are using ADR for markup tasks.

Issue:

When trying to open a DWG file, Design Review fails with no error. The Open command then becomes available again, but trying the procedure still does not work.

Causes:

Communications problem between Design Review and DWG TrueView.

Solution:

  • Run Design Review as an administrator. If DWG files open and convert properly, escalate permissions for all users.
  • Instead of opening DWG files, export DWF files from AutoCAD or DWG TrueView and open them. See: To Export a Drawing to a DWF File.
Note: Ensure that both Design Review and DWG TrueView installed in the PC are versions which match (e.g. Design Review 2018 and DWG TrueView 2018).
